Canada's Blue Jays Earn World Series Matchup With defending champion Dodgers
The outfielder contributed to the Houston Astros winning the championship in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their first World Series after 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the final seventh game of the ALCS.
Behind by two runs, Springer delivered a three-run blast in the seventh frame, leading the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 victory in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, holders of the reigning title, in the anticipated World Series.
"It's incredible for this squad, Toronto, Canada," Springer stated, a key player of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 title. "This is such an amazing experience."
The veteran has now hit 23 post-season home runs, making him third in history after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of another person anywhere that I'd choose in that situation other than George Springer with his post-season brilliance," said manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the early in the series, are still the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson said "certainly that it's painful" following his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but praised their performance in the campaign.
"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we finished on the losing end of this one," he remarked.
Toronto secured the World Series on both previous visits in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
