Government Turns to Supreme Court Following Unsuccessful Attempt to Block Snap Payment Directive
On Friday, immediately following a federal appeals court determined that the White House must fully fund nutritional assistance benefits, the White House turned to the nation's highest court in a new effort to prevent the ruling.
Within hours, the highest court handed down an emergency order provisionally halting complete nutrition assistance funds, which nearly 42 million people rely on to buy groceries.
“Legal counsel persist in working, continuously, to support and promote our agenda,” the attorney general announced on digital channels shortly after 9:30pm local time.
Administration officials had requested the appellate court to overturn a judicial decision that it issue November’s full monthly food stamp assistance amid a US federal government shutdown, and had their request rejected hours later.
