The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
